Kern: a mobile Typst editor with live preview
Kern brings the Typst compiler to Android, with a side-by-side preview that updates as you type, the Typst Universe package registry, and an importer that converts LaTeX source to Typst.
Who it's for
Writers tired of LaTeX's edges but who still want a real typesetting engine, and anyone writing on their phone or tablet who wants the output to look serious.
What it does
A Typst editor with a side-by-side preview that updates as you type, access to the Typst Universe package registry, starter templates, and an importer that reads LaTeX source and converts it to Typst. Snap math handles equations the same way it does in Lemma.
How we built it
The Typst compiler is a Rust library — we compile it for Android and run it on-device with no network trip for each build. Package fetches cache locally; the result is pages that look like your laptop's output, from a phone.
